Perhaps, you dove into TER and did not read the wiki or became familiar with changes in TER. Although making a test character is recommended to see changes, it understandable that mistakes and miscalculations can be made further along in your experience on TER--and that some changes are not apparent at early on.
LETO Requests are handled on the forums. This page serves to make known and inform players who have not yet visited the forums. Please go to LETO Request in order to file changes to a character.
LETO Requests[]
LETO in General
I'd like to clarify a few things about the LETO requests section.
We believe that our players are capable of making well-informed decisions. There are both in-game descriptions and a wiki to assist the process, and if anything is unclear DMs are available to provide clarification, whether in-game, on Skype or through this forum. We therefore expect you to consider your options, to choose with care and to abide by the consequences of the choices you make on your character's behalf.
Even so, there are times when changes are called for and we aim to support them where possible, as long as we can offer that support fairly. Most requests we honour fall in one of four categories:
- You want a minor change which you can't make yourself using the tools in-game. This may be something like selecting an animal companion at Ranger 4, changing a tattoo colour or language, or deleting a character from your vault.
- You believe a major event in your character's life warrants a mechanical change. This could be something like trading CHA for INT when a character has become a recluse after suffering social humiliation for instance. Note though that we do not make attribute changes to attributes which are drained through negative HP events. Relevels beyond a single, recently taken level will also be denied for the sake of character consistency.
- You want a change after a recent module update altered the way your character works or could work, and builders invited those who wanted a related adjustment to request one. Alternatively, your character suffers from a long-term bug which was not yet reported when you made your fateful choice.
- You made a decision when you were new to TER's mechanics. Now you're more familiar with the server you regret it and feel it limits your enjoyment of an established character.
Things to consider when making a LETO requests[]
Please keep in mind the following policies when making LETO requests in addition to the information above:
- LETO requests should be carefully considered as something pursued only in exceptional situations. They are in no way the norm or a means to make regular changes to a character.
- We have a policy that ability score losses must be restored by greater restoration before ability score adjustments can occur as part of a LETO request.
- All changes being requested are to be permanent and further alterations may be declined on the basis of this limitation alone.
- Name changes are discouraged and reserved for very exceptional circumstances.
Respeccing[]
On Respeccing
Regarding 'respeccing,' that's unfortunately not as simple as stripping/restoring xp because of the way we modified the game.
To give some examples, a Ranger has to decide between the archery and dual-wield path. This choice is recorded, and so a relevel doesn't actually allow you to choose differently. Moreover, the useful feats you get from this path are given as part of a conversation rather than a level-up, so if you'd rebuild as Ranger (1) / Sorcerer (x) instead, you'd get to keep your Ranger feats.
A Rogue meanwhile loses half their Sneak Attack bonus when using a ranged weapon. If you unequip the bow, your proper bonus is restored. Dropping to level 1 with a bow equipped, then unequipping the bow would potentially give you more Sneak Attack than you have a right to, particularly if you retake your levels as Fighter or the like.
Because of such systems, we have to evaluate every relevel request carefully and apply the proper manual corrections to make sure your new build is valid and fair.
Though we also prefer to have a manual check for another reason, being that we want to make sure the relevel is done for the right reasons. It should not be a mechanical decision to go from a 'strong early game' build to a 'strong late game' build, because that late game build may have been unable to survive or get the xp/resources the early game build gave the character.
We may also honour other requests, so don't hesitate to ask if there's something you want or are unhappy with.
As written above, the choices you make are primarily your own responsibility and so we won't keep tweaking characters whenever you have a change of heart or a new idea. But we are here to help, and hope that together we can ensure your characters look and work as you wanted them to.
